Year 1 Autumn Term

4th November 2019
In Year One we have been learning about harvest time. We collected apples from the school orchard and used these to make apple crumble.

We have been learning to write instructions in Year 1. We wrote instructions on how to bath a baby. We used either time connectives or numbers to sequence these instructions.

We visited the war memorial in Stony Stratford. We know that we pay respect to soldiers who have fought and continue to fight for our safety and freedom. We stopped for a two minute silence to show these men and women that we were thinking of them. We looked at the poppies that had been laid on the cenotaph. We understand that we wear poppies because these were the first flowers that grew on the battlefields after World War 1.

We had scientists visit us from London. They taught us about the importance of hand-washing. We know that we wash our hands before we eat and after we go to the toilet. We understand that bugs can make us poorly and we shouldn’t put our fingers in our mouths. We were taught about antibiotics and why they are used by Doctors. We had the opportunity to design and make our own sock puppet. This represented antibiotics eating all the nasty bugs.
